By the time this album came out in 1990, my love affair with Steppenwolf had already been going on for a couple decades and I had seen them live quite a few times. But then started a new phase as I grew fonder and fonder. I guess you can say I liked this album from the very first listen but the ten songs on this, all winners in my opinion tend to grow on you with repeated listens. They started doing a lot of touring and whenever they were anywhere even close to LA I would travel and see them. I took many friends to a Wolf show and turned them on to the music. As you will hear on the concert I have included here from those days they were doing a real cool set back then where they would alternate between songs off this album and the good ole stuff. I was in Wolf heaven. But I think I always have been. Rise & Shine out of print CD rip link. John Kay & Steppenwolf - Bourbon Street, Binghamton, NY 6/12/91 - set list. Link.
Hey Friends and Comrades, I got a full day today with several events I'm booked for so dashing out the door, no posts today but will be back tomorrow. This is the last weekend for the Beach until next summer so we'll try and come up with some exciting posts this weekend!! Have a great one, peace, T.
I literally would have never written a song if it wasn't for this record. In 1980, a music major at Los Angeles City College, one Sunday my friends literally dragged me to a free concert this guy did in a Hollywood amphitheater. I didn't want to go cause I had never heard of him. About 8 of us all sat in this one row and Michael came out on stage holding a Budweiser and joking around with the crowd. I liked him right away and he did a rockin' set that included most of the songs on this album. Later that week I picked up guitar and pen and wrote my first set of 14 songs. I am forever indebted to Michael and we have spoke a few times over the years, he's a great guy. Here's a vinyl rip of the album and here's the info. Vinyl rip!
In today's entry of "From The Black Crowes Archives" I got a show here that I was in attendance at and got the cd-r in a trade a couple weeks later. Very unique set list on this one as they open up with "Exit" a song hardly played, the same with Cypress Tree. Set list is here. Link. Please note this is not an official release, it's an A- audience capture that a fan recorded. It's suitable for trading.
